Space is information-rich, by which I mean there's nowhere to hide and you're very easy to see if you do anything. I think there are two problems to resolve to get this situation:Ģ: Offense tends to be stronger than defence technology. can I get space battles that are relatively plausible, and are not over with rapidly? I don't want a stealthy fight where its eons of sneaking around for like, three seconds of battle, I want battles where everyone knows where everyone else is to take eons, and for ships to be able to, again, really take a pounding. Missiles I can hand wave by saying a combination of advanced electronic warfare and point defense have mostly eliminated the viability of missiles in space warfare, however, I'm still stuck with railgun and just, ever larger artillery guns probably ripping apart armor too easily. More broadly, it's a setting where armor not only matters, but performs well enough that there isn't a level of firepower easily available to overcome it. To elaborate, what I want is a setting where, within the realm of scientific plausibility as much as possible, ships can pound on each other for eons before either gets destroyed. They don't end in something ridiculous like fractions of a second, To explain what I mean by this: Is there a plausible way to have a setting where,ī.
